Gah! February! Can anything good come from February?
Well, I came from February the 9th, but other than that, it’s the pits this time of year where I live. Perfect time to hunker down and do some housecleaning and tweak those lists because
you don’t know what you don’t know.
For example, if you think your donor opens every email you send, you are sorely mistaken. So if you have a burning message and only ever put it in an email, would you want to know that your donor never sees it?
I’ll answer for you: YES, yes you would.
The most critical fundraising work is about small, faithful, “non-sexy” work like database cleansing, duplicate checking, email bounce rates, unsubscribe rates, donor tags, gratitude, gift acknowledgments, etc.
So while you continue to storytell during love and loyalty month, stop, look, listen, and learn nuances of your donor database. What do the numbers tell you? What are they telling you they want to know? How are they telling you they want to hear from you?
Now do that.
And if you want to build your list and find more people with an affinity for your cause, this is the right time to start those efforts. You'll find pointers on that in the plan behind the paywall below.
Have fun housecleaning! What else are you going to do? Because…February.
